Uncle Tom’s Cabin,
by Harrient Beecher Stowe
Written in response to the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850, abolitionist and author Harriet Beecher Stowe’s best-selling novel helped lay the groundwork for the American Civil War by fueling anti-slavery sentiment across the country.
